I originally had a different post scheduled for yesterday, but I didn’t like the pictures and ended up scrapping the whole post.  However, I do have another ‘Now and Later’ post… this time going from work to play!

DRESS: old Norma Kamali for Walmart // NOW // BELT: old Anthropologie / EARRINGS: Premier / FLATS: Me Too via Marshalls / LINEN CARDIGAN: JCrew / BAG: LV {similar from Michael Kors} // LATER // BELT: BCBG / LION EARRINGS: thrifted Cindy Adams / BRACELETS: thrifted {similar} / HEELS: Valentino via NMLC / BAG: thrifted Chanel from here
Originally, I wanted to wear that very-fun-blue-snakeskin-toggle-chain belt to work, but I didn’t want the wrong kind of attention.  True story: A couple of years ago, I decided that NUDE FISHNET stockings would be a good idea for work.  Since they were nude, I rationalized to myself that it cancelled out the FISHNET part of the stockings so it would be work appropriate.  I got quite a few comments that day.  And the NEXT DAY, a physician approached me, glanced at my legs, and said, “Awe, no fishnets today?!”  I was absolutely mortified.  At work, I want to be respected and noticed for my competent clinical abilities and NOT my attire.

The Style Rx for a happy and healthy work outfit:  Keep party attire for the happy hour AFTER work.  No halter tops, mini skirts, or fishnets!!  If you are questioning whether an outfit is work appropriate, then it’s probably not!  This is just my humble opinion.  If you are in the retail/fashion industry, this probably doesn’t apply!

P.S. Did you notice I used analogous colors as mentioned here?  Green and blue are one of my favorite color combos!

  1. HaHa Sam! Guys think you’re hot anyway you dress girl. HaHaHa You’re just pretty! I understand how you feel girl. I love that dress! It’s gorgeous! It looks great styled both day and night. Great accessories too!

  2. Ashley K says:

Don’t worry your not the only girl to make a fashion mistake. I once wore 6 inch heels to work in hindsight that was not the best idea for my feet or for the attention they got me. I like this look it works great for day and night!

  3. Stacey says:

I spy your new Chanel!!! So jealous!!! You look gorgeous Sam!!

    • Samantha says:

Thanks Mica! I really like the belt too, which is why I wanted to wear it to work. Mr. S says it looks like a chastity belt with the chain and hardware! LOL!

  6. When I read “Now & Later,” it brought back memories of now & later candy I used to love as a child.
I would have never put green & blue together….SO pretty!
Btw, Aggies are now in the SEC! We (Univ of TN) might play you guys one year!

  9. The dress and the color look great on you!

  10. kimberlyloc says:

Wait, so you’re saying the tube top and mini skirt I have on at work right now is a faux pas?

    KIDDING :)

Hehe, love these lil now and later posts, Sam. You look great in green! xo

    • Samantha says:

LOL Kimberly! You’re so funny! I mean… what are you talking about?! I am wearing a tube top and mini at work today too! We’re twinsies!

  11. Love the colour of your dress, that belt is stunning!

  12. I think it is awesome you wore nude fishnet tights to work..hey even if it did generate some chit chat…I think it would have looked awesome on you!

I wore a knuckle ring to work today with a blinged out skull bracelet! Whatever! Love how you styled this dress, the in the 2nd look I was like OMG…did Mr. S get her the hermes collier de chien version belt??? Looks like it! I won’t tell anyone you got it from bcbg :D

  13. steph says:

Love the story about the nude fishnets! Mainly because I’ve managed to justify my countless faux pas in the past the same way, where x cancels out x, haha. Thankfully I do work in an industry where we can pretty much wear anything (as long as it’s decent!) :) Love the way you styled the green dress, and those valentino heels are hot!

    • Samantha says:

I know right! x cancels x is always good rationalization! And thanks, I got the Valentinos for a steal at Last Call. That place is killer on my wallet!

  14. Kimberlee says:

Love that belt! Aww co-workers are the worst hehe my sister wore one “bold” necklace and she’ll never live it down. Thankfully I work in a place where I can wear bold fashion choices. I definitely hear you about your dilemma. Definitely want to be noticed for your brain!

  15. very lovely!!
love the belts…they do make a difference. i would have never thought to pair turq + green…they look so nice together
