FIVE STYLE SECRETS (freebie)

The leather skirt is one of those wardrobe items that can be dicey!  If worn incorrectly, you can be a motorcycle chic or trend gone bad.  But it’s an easy item to wear if you think about it as just a textured skirt.  Here I’m showing you how to take it from work wear to a girls night out!
The Functional Version

sweater :: Express
skirt :: Gap (gifted from my friend L* – it was too big for her)
earrings :: Premier
bracelet :: Junk Gypsie gifted from galpals
shoes ::  Nine West (c/o mom)
bag :: Coach

The sweater is a nice contrast to the smooth leather, and the heels break up the browns.  (I have worn this skirt with tall leather boots but realized that it may have been too much leather on my lower half!)  I felt that the addition of a suede bag added more texture (even though it is a kind of leather).
And of course, trusty turquoise is my accent color to the rescue!  These heels are great because they are a combination of brown and turquoise to tie everything together!

The Fun Version

cuff :: F21
booties :: Kate Spade (Marshall’s)

To go from day to night, I tucked in the sweater and added patent bordeaux booties and a cuff.  It toughens up the look just a bit!  {Background on the booties :: I got them at Marshall’s for $39.99 and I’m not sure if they were mismarked but I checked out and hightailed it out of there!  That’s the same story for a pair of Coach over-the-knee boots I got from Marshall’s.  You’ll see them in the winter.}

Do you own a leather skirt?  Have you worn it this season yet?

    I actually like the function version the best, maybe it’s the turquoise bracelet :P I LOVE turquoise!!
    I have a purple leather skirt and I always brainstorm ways to wear it but never actual wear it out… I think I need to be in a certain daring mood to do it.

  2. Bravoerunway says:

    I have worn my leather skirt, the first time last week!  It’s a black pleated mini version and I love both looks you created!  Those red kate spade boots…$39?  Yup…you were smart to hightail it out of Marshalls!  Hope all is well :)

  3. SkippySays says:

    Love the two different styling here! Love your Kate SPade booties!!

  4. Cara says:

    I love that skirt, and have been wanting a similar skirt that I can style for work and play! Beautiful shoes in both outfits, I really love those booties though.  I had a similar incident at Marshalls with a pair of Cole Haan shoes for $29.99 and a pair of Stuart Weitzman flats for $39.99.  Totally checked out and ran out of the store with both pairs!

  5. oh i love that leather skirt on you. i love that burgundy richness!!

  6. Ling says:

    Loving your booties!

  7. Kim A. says:

    That’s a great leather skirt Sam and WOW from the GAP!?! I missed that one. I don’t own one (leather jacket yes, but not a skirt). I saw one in Talbot’s catalog but it was like $250. I love soft leather. Maybe it will go on sale later this season. HAHA So glad you mixed it up with booties and a fantabulous pump. I always think of pairing it with boots (which is still nice) but what great options. Love your cowlneck sweather too!

    Aline, I actually like the functional version best too!  I’m totally into turquoise!

    Wow, a purple leather skirt sounds really fun!  You could pair it with a neutral (like cream, black, or grey) and it may tone it down!  Would love to see it!  :o)

  9. Samantha says:

    Oh yes Bessie!  I know your cute little pleated number – you wore it with that fab jacket!  I never would have thought to get a pleated leather skirt, but you make it look amazeballs!

  10. Samantha says:

    Thanks Inna!  Love those booties too  – just need to wear them more often!

  11. Samantha says:

    Right!!  I know that Marshall’s has good deals – but it always seems like a crime when you leave the store! LOL!

    I was really lucky that my girlfriend didn’t want it anymore and that it fit me!

  12. Samantha says:

    Thanks June!  You have some wonderful leather goodies too – especially your Vince leggings!

  13. Samantha says:

    Thanks Ling!  :o)

  14. Samantha says:

    Hi Kim!  This is an oldie from Gap – it from a couple of years ago!  If you are not so sure about a leather skirt, then I would wait for sales too!  Then you can try it without breaking the bank!  But I feel like a good leather jacket trumps leather skirt any day!

  15. hey u beautiful lady
    luv u more
    thanks
