What inspires you? When I see a work of art, whether it’s on a canvas or dress, I wonder what inspired the artist.

Be still my heart! I couldn’t believe my computer screen. I stared in disbelief when I saw the ready-to-wear version of Mary Katrantzou’s Faberge dress on sale for Last Call at Neiman Marcus. I vividly remember seeing the designer’s work for the first time on Anna Dello Russo. It was a masterpiece, and I was in love.
Just a little about this brilliant designer… Mary Katrantzou is a Greek fashion designer residing in London. Originally, she studied architecture before switching her focus from interiors to fashion. Her work has been seen in Vogue, Grazia, Gossip Girl, and a collaboration with Topshop {just to name a few}. This dress was inspired by the beauty of a Coromandel screen and Faberge egg.

omgosh this dress is SOOO AMAZING the print is just divine and you look ABSOLUTELY STUNNING IN IT!!!!
That is a stunning dress, and you wear it beautifully. It takes both moxie and a sense of balance to pull it off, and Katrantzou certainly has both. The dress is a great example of using asymmetry in design, in the sense of balancing elements that might otherwise be mismatched. Have you seen these asymmetric leather sandals from Jill Sander? (They’re no longer available for purchase, however) They touch on the same design principle that your dress does, I think.
I have seen those leather sandals!! They are gorgeous! {I think Jane and Judy Aldridge had a pair that they were selling!}
