It’s that time again… CHIC AT EVERY AGE. This week, we bring you the ONE SHOULDER TOP!!
For those of you that have just tuned in, this fab collab is exactly how it sounds… a chic chick in her 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s shows you how to style a piece in their own way. I’m working with some of my FAVORITE gals in Dallas!!
The 20-something // Brooke of One Small Blonde
The 30-something // ME!
The 40-something // Heather of So Heather
The 50-something // Cathy of The Middle Page
Photography // Mary of So Then They Say
Cathy looks fab in her skinny pants and cage sandals. Heather looks cool as always in distressed denim and choker. I paired my top with faux leather culottes and a stacked heel sandal. Brooke nailed it with graphic shorts and wedges.
This was such an interesting “experiment” for me. The off the shoulder trend has been going strong and I love it, but the ruffles (and tulle to give it volume) were a little too much for me. To balance out the feminity, I paired it with a structured bottom and pulled back hair. Funny because I love anything voluminous and dramatic, but I didn’t feel it was for me. However, seeing the pictures of the gals make me realize how versatile this top is and now I like it! Ha! Plus, it’s on sale for $79 (originally $140).
THE STYLE Rx: A one shoulder top is a great way to look subtly sexy but sophisticated and chic at the same time. Wear it for date night, vacation, or girls night out! Take some inspiration from my beautiful friends above!
Did you spot my special photo bomber in the individual picture?! Things have been a little hectic with a newborn and a toddler, to say the least! We were scheduled for the photo shoot and Little M was throwing up the night before. Luckily, Gma had volunteered to take care of Baby MJ. So I took Little M with me to the shoot. It’s so difficult when four other people are involved with schedules.
Anyhow, he was such a trooper and I cherish the time that we spent together even if it was fortuitous! Hope y’all are having a wonderful week. I’m still in survival mode until Saturday when Mr. S gets back into town. Wish me sleep! LOL!

I love how you guys always style things so differently! Everyone looks amazing! I think Heather’s is the one I would wear since it’s a little edgier and the top is a little too pretty for me, haha. I feel weird in super white/frilly things

Oh yes, Heather is always so good at looking edgy chic!!! For sure, the ruffles are kind of frilly. Cathy said that she felt like a “cupcake”! LOL!
I think it looks great on you, and I’d never know you were a little unsure it was right for you in the photos – you look cool and confident as always! :)
Sorry to hear little M was unwell – hope he’s feeling better now, and that you’re managing to juggle everything with the 2 of them. It’s hard but you can do it!

Thanks Mica! I think Little M ate too much junk food because we went to his friend’s bday party lots of sweets! And thanks for all the support! I “survived” while Mr. S was gone… but barely! HA!!
I always love seeing the different ways you all style the same item! And the funny thing is it’s not really age defined!! I think all ages could wear them all ways!
My mom used to have a dress with the one shoulder and I always thought it was super sexy (i wonder why?)
I think the ruffles make is a little less sexy and maybe more versatile?
It’s nice you’re showing culottes—I love my pair, yet forget to wear them often!

Thanks Jodie! I’m so glad that culottes are back in! They are such a great alternative to shorts (for me)!! You totally need to bust yours out!
And YES, the shoulder is very sexy in a subtle way – so interesting right?!
[…] THE STYLE Rx: Don’t be afraid to try on things that look so-so on the hanger. You may be pleasantly surprised. AND do try the off-the-shoulder trend! Shoulders look good on all ages (as seen here)! […]
Aren’t you blessed to have such a sweet, handsome photo bomber????
