Hello GlamFam! It’s a new “What’s in My Bag?!” review. Today we’re getting all the fabulous details about the YSL Sac De Jour. This amazing bag holds a special place in my heart because my amazing husband bought it for me 8 years ago as an adoption “push present”! At the time I didn’t have a Birkin Bag but always wanted one, and my husband saw the silhouette of this one and knew I would love it! Since then it has been one of my favorite bags and will always have that sentimental element. Keep scrolling to read my honest YSL Sac de Jour review and for a fun Birkin Bag comparison!

YSL SAC DE JOUR REVIEW
The Sac de Jour is renowned as a “classic” in the world of handbags, and for good reason. After all, these incredible bags are part of Saint Laurent’s permanent line! It was first introduced in 2013 by Creative Director Heidi Slimane and it became an instant must-have. Although it was suggested that the bag was an “imitation” of the already famous Birkin bag, it didn’t affect their sales. In fact, it was one of Saint Laurent’s most successful bag releases!
Its popularity still continues to this day and you’ll find many of these fabulous bags on the arms of your favorite celebrities. Sac de Jour literally translates to “bag of the day”, which has definitely been the case for the past 10 years! I think it’s safe to say that this bag is unlikely to ever go out of style. Not to mention it’s extremely versatile! It’s available in a range of sizes, colors, and finishes which means you’ll be able to wear it day or night and during any season.
SIZE and PRICING
My YSL Sac de Jour is a size medium but now it also comes in sizes nano, baby, and small! From the YSL site, pricing for the medium bag starts at $3,700, but I also found this pre-loved option for only $945! Nanos go for $2,500, the baby size starts at $2,850 and the small is $3,150. Don’t forget you can also browse online for more gently used options!
The dimensions of my medium bag are 14.2 X 10.6 X 7.7 inches and it has plenty of room for everything I need. I can easily fit my full-size Louis Vuitton wallet, sunglasses in a hard case, makeup bag, and iPhone. On top of that, there’s still room for my keys, mask, hand sanitizer, and lipstick! The middle pocket has a zipper, which I use to store the removable shoulder strap. This strap can easily attach to the clips on the interior of the bag in order to transform it into a shoulder or crossbody bag!
AESTHETICS and CONSTRUCTION
It wouldn’t be a YSL Sac de Jour review without getting to all the best details! The Sac De Jour is made from luxuriously smooth calfskin leather with rolled leather top handles. The interior is a suede and leather lining with a zipped partition pocket, side zipper pocket, and patch pocket. It also includes some handy compression straps with tabs that allow you to expand the size of the bag! If you’re a person who loves to fit as many items as possible in your bag then this one is perfect for you! Plus, of course, it features the famous embossed Saint Laurent signature.
Saint Laurent is well known for using quality materials for their bags and that’s obvious by just looking at this one. It’s very well constructed and it has held up extremely well after using it for 8 years. You know I’m not gentle with my bags! However, something to keep in mind is that this bag is quite heavy. Even when it’s completely empty, it has quite a bit of weight.
Aesthetically, this bag is absolutely timeless. The shape is legendary and paired with the classic accordion sides, this fabulous tote is one that everyone wants. When you’re wearing this bag people will definitely notice!
FUNCTIONALITY
Regarding functionality, this larger bag is fabulous for its capacity to hold everything including the kitchen sink. The zippered middle compartment also creates a more secure safe to hold items like a wallet, keys, and/or sunglasses. It is easy to reach in and grab things, especially with the three separate compartments.
The fact that a shoulder strap can be added on is a wonderful bonus if you are busy running errands or have Little Ones. I would say that the one major downfall of the bag is the weight. It is heavy empty and even heavier with anything in it. It’s one that may cause shoulder or back pain if you are sensitive to that.
SOS RATING
THREE AND A HALF STARS (out of 5 stars)! The construction and quality are SUPERB, and the aesthetics are BEAUTIFUL! However, the bag is SO HEAVY so that knocks off a whole point. The price knocks off another 1/2 point. HOWEVER, if you are very interested in the Hermes Birkin but would never pay that much for a bag, then this is the fabulous luxury bag for you!
LOOK FOR LESS
As always, I have searched around and found quality budget-friendly options for you to check out. First up is the Michael Kors Hope Satchel. This one has a tote-style structure that is very similar to the Sac de Jour and is still made with quality materials. The second option is the Kate Spade Hayes bag which is also very well made but with a similar structure and is much more affordable! I didn’t mention this one in the video, but the Tory Burch Walker Satchel has a very similar and classic silhouette.
SAC DE JOUR vs BIRKIN BAG
Side by side, these bags look incredibly similar! Similar width, depth, side details, and overall silhouette. Each bag also comes with a lock and key and they both have small feet on the bottom as well. The Hermes Birkin has one big open space on the interior with one side zipper pocket, whereas the Sac de Jour has three compartments.
As far as durability goes, the Sac de Jour does seem to have finer-grain leather which could potentially make it easier to scratch/mark up (also depends on which type of leather you get on a Birkin). After a lot of use, the Saint Laurent bag silhouettes have been known to become slightly saggier as well.
All in all, these bags are extremely comparable as far as a beautiful and classic silhouette! One of the main differences is the price point. Birkin bags are painstakingly hand made which accounts for their very large price tag. With either bag, you’ll get a lot of use! You just have to decide on your budget.

Happy Weekend GlamFam! The kids are officially off for Christmas Break! I’m working at the hospital this weekend, so they’ve been hanging with the hubby! Next week, they have Winter Camp, and they are so excited about it! It gives me a few extra days to get some work done!
