As I mentioned previously, I have four fashion fairy godmothers {Ashley, Bethany, Jen, and Nini} that made my Fashion Week experience a dream come true!
I went to one fashion presentation and three runway shows. Also, I’ll give you the lowdown on what worked and what didn’t to get me into events.

{FYI: A runway show is what you typically think of – models walking the catwalk and it’s usually over in 15 minutes. A presentation is where the models stand on a stage or platform and you can get a really good look at the clothing. It usually last a couple of hours. I recently learned the difference.}
Alon Livne // For his Fall collection, Alon Livné was inspired by the writings of author, JG Ballard, of a bleak post-apocalyptic world. This imaginary earth is inhabited by figures transformed through crystallization; once breathing, now beautifully frozen jewels imprisoned in a world hung between day and night, dawn and dusk. He trained at Alexander McQueen before moving to the evening wear and couture division at Roberto Cavalli. Alon’s showroom is located in Tel Aviv, Israel, and this presentation makes his first international debut. See the entire lookbook here.
Monique Lhuillier // Her Fall 2013 line is inspired by opulence and drama featuring intense jewel tones such as malachite green, oxblood, and amethyst. Day and night looks are rich with art deco motifs, abstract prints, golden brocades, color blocked fur, and her signature lace. FYI, the models were wearing jewelry designed by Pamela Love. It’s Monique’s first delve into jewelry – what a fantastic collaboration. See more of the runway shots here.
Lela Rose // The Fall collection centers around the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales with velvet beauty, black lace, floating feathers, and jeweled embroidered necklines. Illustrated jacquard, snow threaded organza, and printed silk range in colors such as golden, juniper, willow, and twilight. Reem Acra // After recent travels to Japan, her inspirations spawn from the photographs of artist Daido Moriyama. Abstract photos of the female body in fishnet stockings influence the use of fabric layering, such as combining prints, embroidery, and leather. The color palate is focused and restrained in black and white with bold strokes of red. I really LOVE that tweed kimono dress pictured above. See the collection here.

To follow up from my first post about NYFW, here is what worked and what didn’t to get me into shows and events:

PRESS PASS // I applied for a Mercedes Benz Press Pass and my credentialing was denied. I’m not sure if I would apply again next year because you get charged the fee even if your credentialing is denied, and I’m not a designer, etc. This is the email response I received:Due to the ever increasing number of people requesting to be placed on the list for invitations and credentials, we have had to limit the number of Press and Industry representatives being accredited.Please note that it is against our policy to credential registrants that are not members of the press i.e. designers, jewelry brands, fashion students, etc. Registration is only for Press, Buyers and other relevant professionals from approved Media/Retail outlets.If you have failed to submit requested materials to the Mercedes–Benz Fashion Week Credential Office, that is a possible reason for your decline.We encourage you to submit your application again next season.
- FOHR CARD // I registered for a Fohr card, and I believe that is how I received some of the invites for Fashion Week events. Basically, it’s a e-business card for bloggers that updates your blog traffic and social media followers {twitter, instagram, and tumbler} in real-time. Brands can search and connect. Fohr card works with Fashion GPS during Fashion Week which brings me to my next bullet point.
- FASHION GPS // This super helpful article from IFB explains how Fashion GPS could be your savior during fashion week. I was NOT registered for it this year. Maybe in the future?
- EMAILS // And lastly, I sent out emails to request an invite to a show. However, most did not respond and the others declined. At least I tried.
Hope you’ve enjoyed my Fashion Week recap! IFB recently came out with this article, “Do your readers care about Fashion Week”? This was my first real Fashion Week experience, and honestly, probably my last because of an upcoming adoption, life, etc. I don’t know if all of this Fashion Week events/shows recap bored you to death, and I apologize if it did. I like to live vicariously through other people sometimes {i.e. all those editors and bloggers that travel around the world to attend fashion events} so I wanted to do the same for those who couldn’t go. Also, I like to share when I learn about new designers, etc. Maybe, it’s too much? Let me know your thoughts.

Sam, I really liked that you shared how you did and didn’t get into the shows. Frankly speaking, I’m bored of the same runway looks etc but it’s things like this that set a blogger apart. You’re beyond generous for sharing your tips. I actually didn’t bother registering for anything. I enjoyed meeting the “behind the scenes” individuals and being a spectator more than the actual shows myself. I also prefer presentations to the catwalk. I get to see the clothes without the circus that surrounds these events.

Thanks for sharing your tips, I am signed up to Fohr as well but didn’t bother with applying for anything since I’m so far away and glad to hear that you got some invites through them! Thank you for sharing your tips and your recaps! I saw that IFB article as well. I think more people than the article gives credit for, appreciate the recaps and coverage. Not everyone is awarded such an opportunity and I personally enjoying reading a genuine recap by someone who is truly there for the experience, not there to say “Oh, yeah, that show.” Know what I mean? Lol
