I remember my first Mother’s Day. It was SO SPECIAL for so many reasons. Our journey to parenthood was a long process. Thanks to adoption, we were so blessed have a little boy. I thought my heart would burst with happiness. Fast forward three years later, and we are busy with two little ones after another adoption of a baby girl. I was so nervous about having “enough love” for a second child, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is so much love for two very special and different little ones.

As the chaos doubled with another child, my appreciation for my own mother also increased. Although things weren’t always smooth sailing when I grew up, I have the utmost respect for my mother. She raised three children without the help of daycare or a nanny. She also worked. And then she had to work extremely hard after my father passed my first year in college to support me and my two younger brothers. She never complained about it, and I only remember her being supportive throughout the hurt of losing my father and the trials of getting through college.

Like most Asian mothers, she wanted us to do well in school. However, the invaluable lessons that she taught me about life outweighed my school education. She taught us the value of being considerate and nice to others, working hard, believing in God, being resourceful, and that it was okay to be unique. For these things, I am ever grateful to her.

Growing up, I loved watching her put on makeup and getting dressed. I always thought she was beautiful without makeup and fancy clothes, and then she was absolutely stunning after a quick transformation with makeup and dress! We also used to go to garage sales to shop for clothes and house items. That’s where I learned to spot a good deal! LOL!

And it would always humor me when Chinese New Year came around because there were so many superstitions that we had to follow. I was born in the year of the Dragon and loved reading about the Chinese Zodiac characters when we went to eat at a Chinese restaurant. Do y’all remember those placemats growing up? Anyhow, I digress.

Now, we are making new memories together. As a grandmother, she spoils the kids and gives me (sometimes) unsolicited advice on how to raise them. LOL! As a mother, I’m trying to stay afloat with everything that life, work, and the kids throw at me. It’s funny how things come full circle around in life!

When Links of London approached us for this collaboration, I was completely thrilled. I’ve NEVER seen a charm bracelet that was so unique (it’s stretchy!) AND has the Chinese Zodiac animal charms as options. It is very special to be able to add one for each child and keep that Chinese tradition for my melting pot family. Little M was born in the year of the snake, and Baby M is my little monkey which is so fitting for the year she was born. The kids love looking at each charm on the sweetie bracelet especially because they are so cute, and I love having something beautiful to wear that represents two of my loves.

I can’t wait to add more charms for future special occasions in the kids’ lives. Right now, Little M really wants me to get the letter M charm since both he and his sister’s name start with that letter. I’m caving and will order it – can’t help it when my sweetie is asking! ;)

Can you tell it was lots of chaos AND fun when we got everyone together for the Mother’s Day gathering?! Little M ate way TOO MANY cookies, and Baby M had a mess of chocolate kisses! Lots of sweets for my sweeties! (Sorry, I get so punny!) Surprisingly, I didn’t get chocolate EVERYWHERE! Cathy’s granddaughter, Evie, was such a gracious hostess and shared her crayons, food, and TV shows! LOL! Heather got to steal some snuggle time and hugs with Evie since her daughter was away at college. Natalie’s daughter, Mila, is too adorable in her matching dress with Mommy. She also loved Evie! We always enjoy time with each other, and this time was extra special with the little ones.

You’ll have to hop on over to the other gals blogs to read about their Mother’s Day Sweetie Story!

Happy Friday Friends! Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Mr. S is heading off to an epic road trip with a friend to California and will be gone for a week! We are going to miss him but will keep busy over here. My mom is going head over to help next week. Thank goodness! We are just going to be hanging out and hopefully resting this weekend. I’m beat! What are you up to this weekend?

I love your dress and your daughter is adorable with her little chocolate face, too cute! :) Looks like ti was a lot of fun. I have an old charm bracelet, it’s very special to me, but I haven’t updated it with charms for the boys, I really should! :)

Hope you are having a great weekend :) It’s been a bit cooler and rainy this week here but I’m not complaining, I’m excited Autumn is starting to arrive at last :)

Moms really are the best! Mine raised 4 of us! She stopped working when I was 3 and one of my brothers was born so she was always here for us which is a luxury for many people out there. I’m glad she was able to do it!
