Happy New Year GlamFam!! I’m so excited about 2023 and all that it holds for you (and me)! I’m super optimistic about this year and have so many positive intentions and goals for myself. That would be a whole separate post! Anyhow, I digress. Winter is the perfect season to play with color and experiment with your wardrobe. Monochromatic dressing in winter is a great style choice to look chic and refined on cold days. Today, we’ll chat about how to wear monochromatic looks in winter.
You will also see a variation of this post on Busbee Style, my friend Erin’s blog, which empowers women over 40! You will have to check out all of the amazing articles available on her site as well as her fabulous YouTube channel. Erin has been mentioned on my blog multiple times like here, here and here!
START WITH A FOUNDATION
Start with a base color such as cream, black, grey, navy, or camel. This is the main color story that you will work with. It can be a dress, a top and pants/skirt, or a jumpsuit. Each piece can be different brands or colors as long as the undertone of it is the same. For example, I am wearing a cream bralette from one brand, and knit pants from another brand. They both have a warm (golden) undertone, so we are good!
LAYERING (Rule of 3’s)
Layering can make a monochromatic look more interesting and dynamic. Choose different textures and finishes to create a unique, eye-catching look. Here, I added an oversized cardigan to the base layer. Adding that third piece (the rule of 3s) instantly elevates the outfit as well as add warmth!
THE STYLE Rx: Remember the Rule of 3’s! Add a third layer to elevate your outfit.
ALWAYS ACCESSORIZE
Accessorizing with a single color is an easy way to pull off a monochromatic look. Pick a single color and choose a hat, scarf, gloves, and/or a handbag in that color. Keep the look cohesive by making sure the accessories match in style and texture. Here, I’m wearing mixed metals with gold and silver jewelry for a fun change of pace. My bag is beige with mixed metal hardware that ties in wonderfully with my jewelry. Last, I threw on a hat which is a great accessory to look chic AND keep warmth for colder weather.
BONUS FOR SOPHISTICATION
Take your outfit to the NEXT LEVEL by adding an additional layer! A coat in the same color family as your base/foundation layer will amp up that outfit in a second! Recently on a cold day, I wore this outfit (w/o the hat) to a doctor’s appointment and errands and received SO MANY compliments. It’s that extra layer!!!
Monochromatic dressing in winter is a great way to stay warm and look stylish. Whether you’re wearing black blue, cream, or pink, you can create chic and unique looks with just one color! Try out these tips and find your own style this winter.
By the way, here are two other examples of monochromatic dressing. In the first, I’m wearing the same pants as the previous pictures and a different top! As you can see, there are various shades of cream and beige within the hat, winter poncho, pants, and bag, but they all have the same warm undertone so it works! In the second photo, I’m wearing shades of beige, camel, and browns for a tonal monochromatic cohesive look!
Alright GlamFam! I hope you enjoy these tips for monochromatic dressing in winter!

Happy Friday GlamFam!!! It’s been a fun and slow start to the New Year! My youngest was sick yesterday with a GI bug, and then I caught whatever she had last night! Anyhow, we are both hanging out and going to pick up brother shortly! She basically seems 100% back to normal today! We just kept her home because she had a fever yesterday, and I didn’t want her spreading anything! Anyhow, we have another holiday party this weekend for Mr. S and will be heading to church on Sunday! WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THIS WEEKEND?!
Thank you so much for stopping by and supporting SOS!
