FIVE STYLE SECRETS (freebie)

Get insider access to my newsletter.

This past weekend, I got to lunch with the fabulous Bessie of Bravoe Runway!  We were ladies who lunch, or LWL as my friend A* calls it!  It’s funny because we were both wearing leopard print!  Great minds think alike!  Where’s the pic?  Great question.  We were so engrossed with our conversation that we never got a picture.  Bad bloggers, I know!

sweater :: JCrew (ebay)
skirt :: Zara
boots :: Dillards
earrings :: Premier
necklaces :: Francesca’s and Premier
bracelet :: MaiTai
bag :: Chanel

Luckily, Bessie warned me about the weather in Chicago – cool and wet.  Mr. S had a conference there so I tagged along.  {Background: I can jet set everywhere is because my little brother works for the airlines.  He isn’t married so I’m the lucky one listed as his companion!  Sometimes, I get stuck because I’m booked as a standby passenger.  But no complaints here!}
The cashmere sweater is thin, but still keeps me warm – perfect for layering.  I had a jacket on for strolling outside.  And I didn’t want to wear too much black so I opted for brown boots.  If my pooch can wear a brown and black combo, then I can too!  These were my $40 Dillards find!  FYI: Dillards has great after season shoe sales.  I’ve gotten wonderful leather heels for $20 and boots for $40!

I’m actually wearing two longer necklaces!  It’s really easy to layer necklaces!

First, take two long necklaces of similar length.

Second, loop them together.  Keep the clasp section on the sides (they will be hidden in back).
Third, use a necklace clip to grab one side.  You can also use a pretty ribbon or scarf as shown here!
Fourth, grab the other side and clip (or use the ribbon/scarf and tie it in a bow)!  Voila!  You’ve layered two necklaces!

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

    Love Bessie and her blog- she has some of the best styling ideas. I’m sure you guys had a blast and looked fab- I can’t believe you forgot to snap a picture. Actually I can, I managed an entire trip to Miami & forgot to take photos, sometimes there is too much fun to be had.

  3. Inna says:

  8. Ling says:

    Love the layered necklace.  Gosh, I wish I had your style – you always look so poised and elegant, Sam!!!

  9. wow….you look stunning!!

  10. I certainly recognize that outfit!  I kid you not Sam…it is STILL raining in Chicago!  Still just as dark, I am not ready for a Fall season like this!  I still cannot believe we forgot to take a pix, there is always next time :)  Another fab shoe find, $40 for those boots?  Our Macy’s has great shoe sales, but the selection gets picked over fast and I love the necklace DIY, thought the black one was van cleef :)

  11. SUSANHANG says:

    and the necklace =)

  12. I like the layered necklace. Some of the symbols reminds me of the Van cleef necklace.

  13. Samantha says:

    Thanks Leticia!!  Funny story…  On the airplane, the lady sitting next to me asked if she could touch it (my bag)!  :o)

  14. Samantha says:

    I know Liv!  I’ve gone on trips and completely forgotten my camera (like when I went to Europe/China to visit my friends)!  Doh!

    Bessie is amazing and it was so much fun to chat with her!

  15. Samantha says:

    Oh yea Inna!  That would have been helpful!  The necklace clip is actually a Premier Design Clip It (my MIL sells the jewelry).  You can locate a jeweler here: https://gem.premierdesigns.com/public/contactform_pdi25.asp

    I did a search online, and I only found beadstores in the UK that sell it but you have to buy in bulk.  These little clip things were around in the 80s when people would wear multiple bead necklaces twisted together.  You may want to ask your mom if she has one.

    Basically, you can use anything that opens and closes – like a safety pin.  (You would just want to make sure your hair was down.)  Also, I suggested using a pretty ribbon or scarf.  Sorry for such a long answer!  :o)

    If anyone else knows where you can get one without going through a Premier Design jeweler, please chime in!

  16. Samantha says:

    Hi twomomsandaparty!  The one with the little coins is from Premier Designs.  The black and gold is from Francesca’s.  Thanks for stopping by!  :o)

  17. Samantha says:

    Thank you Sara!!  I hope you can use the necklace trick sometime!  :o)

  18. Samantha says:

    Thanks Jennifer!!  That would have been so fun to meet you too!  For some reason, I thought you were in LA!  (I think the weekend with your girlfriends in LA got me!)  Will definitely let you know next time we are in Chicago!  :o)

  19. Samantha says:

    Thanks Susan! :o)

  20. Samantha says:

    Goodness Ling!  You’re going to give me a big head!  Thanks for the sweet words! xo

  21. Samantha says:

    Thank you June! :)

  22. Samantha says:

    Oh no Bessie!  Still raining – ugh!  Hopefully you get some better weather!  Fall is one of my favorite seasons but it no fun when it cold and WET.

    We’ll definitely get a pic next time!  And yes, I WISH I had a VCA necklace!

  23. Samantha says:

    Hi Squeeze!  That’s what another reader said too!  When I got it from the accessories store, I just thought it was very pretty!  Now I know why – because it’s very “inspired” from VCA!

  24. Kim A. says:

    Hey Sam! You are definitely right girl. Dillards has awesome sales. Those brown boots are kickin’!!! Love em. I’m loving your leopard skirt. What makes it so unique is that it’s a full short skirt (which i love). Usually you only see straight ones. I wish I had it. I would pair it with some black tights and ballet shoes. Love your necklace too! It’s precious. Awww, i would’ve loved to see you and Bess together! And in leopard too! Roar ladies! :)

    Clever with the layering of necklaces :)

  27. Samantha says:

    Thanks Chic Chic!  :o)

  28. Samantha says:

    Thank you Kim!!  This is one of my favorite skirts because it IS full!!  And what a great idea to pair it with tights and ballet flats!  Will definitely try it in Fall (I mean when Fall gets to Texas)!

  29. This is a great idea to layer the necklaces, Sam. I’m going to try it out!

  30. Kristen says:

    Love your green bag! And what a great hook up for flights!!

  31. Samantha says:

    Oh great Marlene!!  I’m glad that was helpful!!  :o)

  32. Samantha says:

    I know Kristen!!  So glad my brother listed me as his companion! My other brother has been too busy to use the perks!
