Happy Thursday GlamFam! I’ve wanted to reveal my Kelly Wearstler inspired dining room for years, and a fun Spring Home Tour collaboration with five other bloggers finally got me in gear! Interior design is one of my favorite things second to fashion/style, and Kelly Wearstler is one of my icons of interior design. Since it’s a new season, Tiffany Blackmon organized a group of bloggers to show how we do Spring style in our homes. I think of interiors as an extension of our closets. Changing decor for seasons or holidays is like changing accessories of an outfit! So without further ado, here is my Spring styled Kelly Wearstler inspired dining room.

SPRING TABLETOP

First, we’ll start with the Spring Decor! A runner always decorates the table for interesting texture, and I switched out the regular one for a Spring motif runner that I found on sale a while back. The runner along with the mixed pink and ivory peony napkin holders are Monique Lhuillier for Pottery Barn. Pink roses are my favorite and act as the centerpiece in a ginger jar vase.

With exception of the gold flatware (West Elm), wine glasses, and white plates (the 2 latter are from Costco), the rest of the pieces on the table are vintage finds and hand-me-downs. I am obsessed with malachite and found the dessert plates on Ebay. The milk glass goblets are from my grandmother-in-law. Honestly, I don’t remember where the gold salt and pepper shakers are from ~ maybe an estate show?

By the way, we really do use the dining room every Sunday ever since we had a fun Reata restaurant night in from Neiman Marcus (in this post). It’s not as fancy, but we are teaching the children to use adult plates, flatware, and MANNERS. The last one has been difficult but they get so excited about being in the dining room, but we are working on it!

We never registered for wedding china (a story for another time), but we’ve inherited pieces from Mr. S’s late father and my mother giving pieces as gifts. I usually mix and match the blue, black, and brown plates for a fun and vintage vibe. The malachite dessert plates, milk glass goblets, and gold flatware tie everything together. Setting the table for a meal is all about having fun and enjoying the company… similar to getting dressed up!

SUSTAINABLE STYLE: You can find unique tableware on Etsy, ebay, and estate sales. Many times, they are more budget friendly than current tableware. No matching china? No worries! Mix and match for a fun look. It’s like getting dressed and mixing prints.

THE FURNITURE

Second, let me give you a little background about the dining room in general. We moved in and the dining room was unfinished for A.LONG.TIME. It became a dump zone! Then we had Little M, and my sweet girlfriends threw me a Sip and See. That’s when I stepped it into high gear to get all the things done. I love old and new pieces, but I didn’t know how to make everything go together so I looked at Kelly Wearstler’s work for design inspiration. Her work displays eccentric pieces that flow together, and I was trying to take some cues from her luxurious rooms. I came upon one of her home tours, and her entryway is tiled in black and white with a fabulous pink wash all over the walls. That became the inspiration for this room ~ BLACK AND WHITE with a splash of color!

THE STYLE Rx:  Treat your home interiors like an outfit and change the “accessories” to match the season/ occassion.

It started with the chairs. Mr. S jokes that our house would be full of chairs and mirrors if he didn’t stop me! LOL! The end chairs were my from my grandmother-in-law and I loved the shape but wasn’t in love with the brown wood frame and golden orange velvet. They were recovered with black faux alligator material and the frame painted white for a modern look. I couldn’t figure out which chairs to pair with it so I went for designer-inspired chairs. At that time, the Kartell ghost chairs were out of our budget. The rug is actually an outdoor rug found on overstock.com and was perfect to create a graphic black and white “backdrop”. I thought it was perfect since we have little ones and is durable.

THE SPLASH OF COLOR

What about color? The artwork was something I painted until we could find something suitable since large art is so expensive, and we haven’t changed it yet. It felt empty so the addition of Fornasetti plates seemed to do the trick in black and white in a more updated way than usual chinoiserie blue and white plates. Faux orchids are my best friends because I have killed too many to keep count of in a lifetime and perfect to add a small dose of color. That gorgeous ornate gold, wood, and marble piece of furniture is another piece from Mr. S’s grandmother.

We cannot forget about the pillows. Those are an easy accessory change every season. Normally, I have gold and beige pillows on the grey chairs (found at an estate sale and recovered) and swapped them out for those teal saber tiger pillows to add some more color. They are larger than the regular accent pillows and definitely add a statement.

The dining room has changed here and there over the years so I may be leaving something out, but please ask about anything in the comments!

Now, hop on over to my friends’ homes for their Spring Home Tour. Check them out below!

Happy Thursday! Little M was home the last two days because of a GI bug, and it wasn’t pretty the first day. He gets really anxious when he’s sick and panics a lot. Anyhow, he was completely better yesterday and then started to be sick again last night. It makes my heart hurt to see him like that, and I hope that he fully recovers soon. Kids are very resilient.
