Come on Barbie! Let’s go Party!! Did you see that the highly anticipated film “Barbie” is set to premiere in 2023? With that has come the Barbiecore trend which is all about embracing the happy hue, pink. It’s been seen on Haute Couture runways, celebrities on the red carpet, and now all over the internet. Let’s learn how to wear the Barbiecore trend in real life!
By the way, I am SO EXCITED to be a new monthly style contributor to Busbee Style, my friend Erin’s blog, which empowers women over 40! You will have to check out all of the amazing articles available on her site as well as her fabulous YouTube channel. Erin has been mentioned on my blog multiple times like here, here and here!
PICK A PIECE OF PINK
The Barbiecore trend has been linked to neon pink as seen on the Valentino Fall 2022 Runways. Some say, “The bolder the better”, but I say, “Wear what makes you happy”!
You don’t have to be neon to embrace the Barbiecorn trend. You can go for all the shades. I especially love the color “carnation pink” in the Crayon box!
Here are a few tips for wearing pink:
- If head to toe pink is not your thing, then try out a smaller accessory like an earring, bag, or shoes. Work more pink pieces into your outfit when/if you feel comfortable!
- Try a pink dress!! You get the most bang for your buck because a dress easily makes a statement. Bonus points if you feel bold enough to wear matching tights and heels!
- Don’t be afraid the wear different tones of pink for a fun layered or monochromatic look. Always go back to nature. Flamingos and peonies are different shades of pink in one object.
I’m wearing a matching pink vest and blazer and would have gone all out with a pair of pink trousers. That is totally my vibe! However, I wanted to show how easy it is to wear with jeans since everyone owns a pair. These split hem jeans are a fun twist on a classic that is super slimming and very fun to show off heels! They are no stretch (100% cotton) and TTS.
REMEMBER THE RULE OF THREEs
This is a simple rule that will make you successful with ANY outfit! The premise is that you need three key pieces for a fabulous outfit.
Imagine this. You are wearing a basic tee and jeans. That’s two pieces, and the outfit is good. Add a third piece like a belt, blazer, or statement jewelry. Voila! You’ve just elevated that outfit to fabulous status!
THE STYLE Rx: Feel pretty in pink by trying the Barbiecoretrend! Any shade will work!
Here, I am wearing a vest and jeans (two pieces) and added the blazer for the third piece! I also added all the gold jewelry, pink bag, and heart-shaped sunglasses for a fun “extra” take on the rule of threes!
Dress for how you WANT to feel!
The last piece of style advice is part of my mantra, “Dress for how you WANT to feel”! If you’re feeling blah, then dress to be happy. It works for me every time!
Do you know the color psychology of pink? Pink has been associated with positive psychological changes like calmness and lowering heart rates which is why it’s been used in prison holding cells. So why not try the Barbiecore trend? It may actually be good for you!
