Hello Fashion Loving Friends! I’m always trying to get the most out of my wardrobe and love it when I can transition seasonal pieces. Today, I wanted to talk about how to wear a dress in Winter. It’s not a new thing to wear a dress in Winter, but there are a few layering tricks that can help you pull off a Summer dress or slip dress for the colder months.
THE STYLE Rx: You can utilize your summer shift and slip dresses year round with some easy style tricks. Just remember to have fun and wear it with confidence!

LAYER A SWEATER/TOP UNDER YOUR DRESS
Statements sleeves are everywhere, and this is a fabulous way to show them off! Above, I’m wearing a bell sleeve sweater under my shift dress for a tonal black and white look. You could even wear an off the shoulder top under a sleeveless dress to create a cold shoulder look (as shown in this picture of me with gal pal, Holland). For a simple and minimal approach, wear a tissue or ribbed turtleneck under a dress.

WEAR A DENIM JACKET (AS AN OFF THE SHOULDER TOP)
You can get creative with any jacket (or top for that matter) by wearing them differently than intended. I wore my denim jacket as an off the shoulder top layer but buttoning it partially, pulling the shoulders down, and pulling up the sleeves. I’ve seen this same trick done with bomber jackets! Have you tried this?

COVER YOUR LEGS WITH OVER THE KNEE BOOTS
You’re running late! You haven’t shaved! NO WORRIES! This is a style secret that I use ALL THE TIME! Cover your gams with boots! Here, I’m wearing over-the-knee boots because my dress is short, but the same would apply to knee-high boots. The trick is to make sure there is some skin showing (at least an inch) so that it doesn’t look like you have leather or suede boot legs! LOL!

WEAR A FUR JACKET
This is really simple. You just throw on a fur jacket over your dress. I usually wear boots/booties to balance out the fluffiness of the jacket on top. Voila! You’re instantly glamorous and look super chic!

What other tricks do you use to wear a dress in Winter? I always want to try some new ones!
Happy Wednesday Y’all! Holy Moly! It’s been SO COLD here in Fort Worth! It was 16 degrees when I was driving to the GYM this morning! Anyhow, I’m trying to play catch up again. Is it bad if we still have Christmas decorations out?! LOL! Plus, I have to go find a computer charger at the Apple Store. I left mine at the hotel in Las Vegas, and they haven’t been able to locate it. I was gone from Friday until Sunday, and I felt like the kids grew more in just those three days! Baby Girl is talking all kinds of gibberish but in full on conversations with me. She’s speaking her own language! Little M is just getting so independent (and then not on some days bc he still wants to be a baby). How time flies!

I love the denim vest look! So cool! And both the others are lovely as well!
I want to start wearing some dresses again but I’ll have to layer up quite a bit, haha!

I’ve never tried the off the shoulder denim jacket, I should give it a go! These are good tips. I tend to be quite unadventurous and just wear my dresses with fleece-lined tights in winter, haha! I don’t think our winter gets as cold as yours though.
I smiled at your comment about the little ones – i was just realising today how grown up my two are, they suddenly surprise you by doing or saying something and they look so incredibly gown up. But then as I took my eldest up for his bath he cuddled in and started baby talking again, something to remind me they are still so small no matter how grown up they seem!

LOL! Yes, Mica, it’s kind of a funny thing to wear off the shoulder but makes a great statement!
I would love to experience your winters! I hear so many wonderful things about Australia, and I want to go when the kids are older one day! And it’s crazy how they grow up so fast. When you have two little ones, it’s easy to forget that the older one is still “young” because there is literally a baby around. But they will always be our sweet babes.
Hello Sam, I have never tried the off-shoulder denim jacket. I love all your collection. Thanks for sharing this nice post.
Hi Shirley! Thank you so much! You should try it – very different but fun!
Hi Sam, you nailed it babes. I became a fan of your styling. I like your all dresses especially the pink one with a fur jacket. Thank you for this amazing post. Keep sharing.
Thank you so much! :)
