Happy Friday Y’all! I’m excited to share four “no fail” tips for working from home. Although I get to work with my pharmacy family once a week, I spend the majority of my time working from home. Even though every day is different depending on the tasks that need to be done, I have certain habits that I do to set myself up for success! I thought it would be fun to share this post since so many of my friends also work “independently”!
Remember, these are things that I do that help me during THIS season of my life. I talk about my morning routine in THIS POST. It may look different for someone with a new baby, a stay-at-home mom with multiple kids who works during naptime/quiet time, or someone working full time with a side hustle.
GET DRESSED
First thing first, I get dressed EVERY DAY. This is something that I do for me. I live by my mantra to “Dress for how I WANT to feel”! I love the process of getting ready and putting on makeup. It puts me in the right state of mind but also, it reminds me that I have a job to do.
Even though the idea of wearing pajamas to work from home sounds SO AWESOME, I reserve my comfy PJs for relaxation time. I think of it almost the same way as sleep hygiene but for work!
Here was a day that I went to a local coffee shop to work! (I’ll explain why in the workspace section below.) I’m wearing a chic denim dress from the newest WHBM collection. It’s super comfy because of the stretch denim, and I love that has a removable corset inspired belt. I am going to wear the dress with a different animal print belt for a fun look!
THE STYLE Rx: Dresses are one of my style secrets because they look great with minimal effort! WHBM always has a great selection of dresses, and I get compliments every time I wear one to work.
My looks are never done without all the accessories! I brought the snake print moto jacket and scarf because most places crank up the AC while it’s in the 100s outside so I freeze inside! It all about layering if and when I need it. The moto jacket is such a flattering cut and silhouette. And it’s hard to see the detail in the pictures, but the scarf has sequins on it!
I LOVE a shoe that’s cute AND comfortable when I’m working. These sandals are the best combination of all neutrals (black, white, and brown) which means it matches EVERYTHING, and the chunky heel makes it easy to walk in.
I have to mention the super cute handbag! I love the woven texture and fringe detail! Plus, you can wear it crossbody or on the shoulder. Even Mr. S did a double take when he saw it!
HYDRATE
Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. That is SO IMPORTANT to help you stay focused and healthy. I’m going to quote my fave motivational gal, Rachel Hollis. At the RISE conference, she told us to drink half our body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, then you should drink 50 ounces of water per day. I don’t always reach my goal, but I feel healthier when I try to drink enough.
When I’m at home, it’s easy for me to drink TOO MUCH COFFEE (since I start the day with 5 cups!) so I have to limit myself. I have a cutoff of 10:30am and then I can only drink water after that! It helps to have a large bottle so you don’t have to refill as often. I have a BKR bottle that I keep at my desk and holds one liter!
WORKSPACE
Speaking of desk, let’s talk about workspace! And remember to do what I say and not what I do in this instance!
Your workspace should be clean and organized which helps with productivity and creativity.
THAT is the reason why I went to a coffee shop on this day – to have a clean and zen space to work. I needed to get so much done and my desk was literally a dumping ground of post birthday party stuff/favors, mail, paperwork for school, and so much more. Everything was ALL OVER and I barely had room for my coffee cup. I’ve texted a picture of my messy desk space to my girlfriends, and you should see the emojis I get back in response! LOL!
Don’t be like me and keep it clean Y’all!
TAKE BREAKS – POMODORO METHOD
Have you heard of the Pomodoro Method? It’s basically a method where you work in 25-minute increments and take small breaks in between. It is my “hack” for efficient time management.
I set my phone timer for 25 minutes and only focus on that task for the time period. So if I needed to get a blog post done, then no email, texts, etc. until the timer is up! Then I take a quick 5 minute break like refill my water, breathe, throw laundry in the wash, etc. (not work related). It’s better when I do something like check the mail or an activity that gets blood flowing. I started doing a one song dance party to make me really happy! I always want to check mail or text, but I have to be super conscious because it’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole and then 20 minutes has gone by!
After 4 pomodoros, I take a longer break for 20-30 minutes. Even if I feel like I can keep going, it’s helpful to take a break and actually keeps me more productive!
I’d LOVE to hear any tips from y’all about working efficiently, even if it’s not from home!

Hi Sam, thanks for sharing these great tips. In my opinion (i work from home as well) the key point is good planing. If you organize your work time to the dot, you can do so muuch more than going to work. The great thing is the freedom you have. I just love it!
