how to wear a cutout top at any age, four different ways

It’s that time again… CHIC AT EVERY AGE.  This week, we’re styling the CUTOUT TOP!

For those of you that have just tuned in, this fab collab is exactly how it sounds… a chic chick in her 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s shows you how to style a piece in their own way. I’m working with some of my FAVORITE gals in Dallas!!

The 20-something // Natalie of The Fashion Hour

The 30-something // ME!

The 40-something // Heather of So Heather

The 50-something // Cathy of The Middle Page

When I saw that we were going to style CUTOUT tops, I was scared. Um, don’t sixteen-year-olds wear cutout tops?! Luckily, there are more “mature” versions of cutout tops which are exactly what we wore!

Cathy can make the most simple outfit look like a million bucks. She wore skinny jeans, black wedges, and super fun statement earrings! Heather has a beautiful neutral thing going on with the blush top, blue jeans, and silver slides. I decided to go monochromatic with the black top, white jeans, and grey bag. Natalie looks so stylish with the navy top and striped culottes! That’s an outfit after my own heart!

THE STYLE Rx: A cutout top can be age appropriate and look chic! Look for ones with cutouts near the shoulder area (versus abdominal area) for a sophisticated take on the trend!

The plus is that I can wear a racerback bra with this top (no need for strapless), and the cutouts are appropriate for our age! It’s on trend but not too risque!

BTW, isn’t that Harper Hallam necklace gorgeous? It was a gift from Tiffany, and I  love that it can be worn three different ways – a choker, double wrapped, and as a long pendant necklace!

FIT DETAILS: Wearing size small on the top but I could have gotten an XS even with my broad shoulder. For some reason, my cutouts seem smaller than the others!

Do you own a cutout top?! Is this a yay or nay trend?

BTW, the Shopbop sale has been extended until Sunday, 4/16! Hooray for those of you who are procrastinators like me! LOL! Here is the post with the roundup of my favorite pieces. Happy Shopping (or browsing for those of you on a shopping diet)!

Happy Good Friday Friends!! What do y’all have planned for Easter or Passover weekend?! We have an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday and then will be spending time with family. We’re headed to the Easter Service on Sunday.

Thanks so much Meg!! Right, glad it’s a grown up version! I’d do anything for these gals but I was really afraid of the “cut out” top at first! LOL!

  2. Mica says:

This a lovely way to wear the cut-out trend! :) I like how you all picked different colours to wear too! :)

I’m a big fan of wrap tops, they are so nice with jeans, as you’ve shown so well.

Hope you are having a lovely Easter and enjoying the long weekend Sam.
