There are a couple of brands that have me completely hypnotized with their marketing.  Number one, Anthropologie.  As I mentioned before, I keep all there catalogues for inspiration.  Number two, JCrew.  Sometimes I love their looks, and sometimes I don’t.  But their models always make everything look so cool like, “Oh yeah, I can totally wear socks with sandals and shorts to work in the dead cold as long as I wear at least three layers on top AND it’s fashionable”!  Anyways, I digress… All of this is to say that I was inspired by the JCrew catalog for this outfit.  For seasons, they have been wearing a button up shirt completely buttoned with a jeweled necklace.  {I’m usually a two buttons from the top unbuttoned kind of gal, but I thought I would give it go!}

shirt :: Zac Posen for Target
skirt :: Anthropologie
necklace :: gifted from mom for my bday!
rings :: F21 and etsy
pearl clutch :: gifted from neighbor when I was younger
shoes :: Chie Mihara
For a Target shirt, I love all the details!  It has pleating on the arms and lapel and a shrunken collar.  I thought it was perfect to show off a necklace!

The vintage clutch is covered with a mother-of-pearl tile on one side.  It is big enough to hold some kleenex (although the holder looks like it was made for cigarettes) and lip gloss.  There is a small compartment to house face powder, and it has a built in mirror and little removable comb.  The neighbor who gave it to me had three boys.  It was so sweet of her to give this lovely clutch to me.  She kept her door unlocked and I would always just walk in to see what she was up to!  She was the one who taught me how to iron shirts and make spaghetti sauce!

Have you tried a button up with jewels?  Are there any brands that inspire you?

  1. Very j-crewish look I must say. I love the color mustard and the shade on this skirt is perfect! White and mustard are a perfect combo. Love all the beautiful accessories as well. What a great idea about saving the catalogs from the store as inspiration. Must try that out, thanks!

  2. JCrew is great for inspiration. You look very chic and ladylike today. Your skirt is fabulous! I have a hard time buttoning shirts, I feel like I am choking :) Heather

    I can definitely see the JCrew inspiration :) That shirt has beautiful details (Target? Really? wow!) and of course I love everything about the skirt, especially its color!

  5. Ling says:

    Such an adorable wee clutch!!! Loves it!

  6. PAPS says:

    That mustered skirt is just so nice. Love the overall look. Follow each other? Let me know will follow you right back.

  7. ohh love this outfit, and those shoes! gawd I would love to raid your closet one day hahaha

  8. I love the mustard skirt! You look great!

  9. Hey Sam! Anthropologie and JCrew have awesome marketing departments. They’re my favorites too. I also like Nordstrom. Your outfit is so sweet. I love the color of that skirt and the pleats in your shirt. Your neighbor is awesome. That bag is adorable and goes great with that outfit. I haven’t tried jewels with a blouse. I think it’s an awesome look! Hope you’re having a great day.

    Hi Sam: This outfit is to die for especially that skirt, I really adore its color on you. Sweet and sassy with those accessories. I don’t necessarily know if I get an inspiration from a specific brand, good question.

    Thank you soooooo much for your encouragement and well wishes, they mean a lot to me. I surely appreciate it :)

  12. Wow! You look absolutely amazing! You turn up to work everyday dressed in these outfits?? You’re the best dressed pharmacist I know.

    Hope you get score lots of rave reviews on the raspberry bakewell cake!

  13. Jen @ redsolesandredwine says:

    You look very J Crew! I do love keeping all my magazines for inspirations and have myself tried the buttoning of my blouse with jewels. You look great, can’t believe that shirt is Target. And the vintage bag is amazing!!

    Red Soles and Red Wine

  14. I have never bought anything from J.Crew or Anthro. I never hit a sale, anything I like once it goes on sale is sold out in my size. I like the stuff but I never find anything. I’ve tried the buttoned up look with a necklace, it’s not bad at all, I originally thought I’d be choking but my shirt wasn’t that tight so I was ok :)

  15. Samantha says:

    @Chocolate, Cookies & Candies – Marlene! I haven’t actually worn this outfit to work! (I would wear it without the necklace and unbuttoned.) I do like to dress up for work but only to a certain extent!

    @Bravoe Runway – Bessie! You told me that you haven’t ever gotten anything from Anthropologie but I never knew about JCrew too! I kind of shop everywhere for deals, so I have a mismash of stuff! And I know what you mean about the choking too! :o)

  16. Olivia says:

    I also recently tried the buttoned all the way up look with a statement necklace. I loved it! But my friends thought it was weird- weird is just a scared way of saying unique, so I will definitely be rocking this look again. You look fab!

  17. chicology says:

    Such a nice pop of colour from the skirt :)
    Shirt has interesting details. Love this! :)
