Last week, I was lucky enough to meet Jane Iredale. She is touring the country for the 20th anniversary of her line and had an event at Soft Surroundings in Southlake, Texas. That was my first experience at Soft Surroundings. Their motto is my time, my place, my self. They carry everything from clothing and jewelry to beauty/fragrance and home decor. The home items are French country inspired, which happens to be the style of our new house! I’m sure I’ll be furniture shopping once we get situated. And they carry the whole line of Jane Iredale products.
A little about Jane Iredale:
Jane started out in the entertainment industry as a casting director. She remembered vividly a comment that was made by someone else at a top model agency, “I could never hire someone with bad skin.” After leaving the entertainment industry, she decided to find a new path. The idea hit her at 3am, and she realized that there was a need for makeup that “cares for your skin”. She found a chemist in California and developed her first product, Amazing Base. After going door-to-door, Ojai Spa was the first to carry her product and found it gentle enough to use for clients after facials or other procedures. The rest is history!

Jane was so pleasant and lovely! Here is a quick recap of our brief chat…
S: What is your favorite product?
J: The amazing base, the first product I made.
S: What’s the most important beauty advice you can give a woman?
J: Sounds cliche, but wear sunscreen. Eighty percent of the signs of aging are from the sun.
S: What’s the most common beauty mistake that women make?
J: Choosing the wrong shade of foundation.
S: If you weren’t developing Jane Iredale products, what would you be doing?
J: I’d be a landscape gardener.
S: Is that where do you get your inspiration from?
J: Yes, our company garden has organic fruits and vegetables… we just added bees last year! {Now that makes sense! A lot of her lipgloss colors are named fruits and have a blackberry flavor.}
S: Do you have a new product that you are excited to share with us?
J: YES, we have this new golden shimmer that I love to put on my arms and legs in the evenings… it just gives a beautiful glow. {I tried it on my hand – it does!} We also have our new long lasting jelly jar eyeliners.

I briefly shared my Jane Iredale makeup experience with her. Recently, I’ve had very severe eczema on my fingertips {painful cracking} and face and neck {raised, discolored, and peeling}. You may have noticed blotchiness on my forehead and neck in the blog posts. When I’d used either her Glowtime BB Cream or PurePressed foundation, my face and neck would look so much better. In fact, my mom thought that it was gone until I admitted that I was just wearing makeup. Jane recommended using a nutritional supplement called Skin Accumax taking 2 capsules in the morning and evening with food for 14 weeks (based on studies). It’s been studied for acne but she told me that a lot of her clients have used it for eczema too and had relief. So interesting to me! Backstory: I’d been using the Glowtime BB Cream {thanks to a recommendation from the awesome Kimberly Loc} because I wanted to try a natural BB Cream and needed more coverage for special occasions. When I ran out of Bare Minerals, I decided to try the Jane Iredale PurePressed foundation because my cousin Iris wears it and loves it.
I do love Jane Iredale products! Isn’t it nice to know about a makeup that looks good, is natural, AND good for your skin?! I’m considering the Skin Accumax supplement. Have any of you tried it? And I’m excited to discover Soft Surroundings too – will be shopping again. Hope y’all had a wonderful week. HAPPY FRIDAY Folks! xx
Yea, I just got one of the starter kits and it is so great. I don’t usually wear foundation but I’ve been using it more and more since getting it :)

Yes Meg, I do think it’s great too! When I used her products years ago, there wasn’t a primer or setting spray. So it’s nice that they have a starter kit. I got the D20 spray with the ylang ylang, but I kind of wished I would have gotten the pommist (that comes in the starter).
Had never heard of this brand before Sam, but it sounds nice :) Glad to hear that it’s working for you!

Oh Mica! It’s great. Jane Iredale is a mineral makeup, but I would say that the loose foundation is more “creamy” compared to Bare Minerals. I’ve been using the pressed powder and it seems to have really nice but light coverage that can be layered. I used to use the loose foundation years ago and it has VERY GOOD coverage. I’ve been using more natural makeup because of the little guy. One day, I noticed his whole face was covered in sparkles from my foundation… so I knew it was rubbing off on him. At that time, I was using Le Metier Peau Vierge which contains a some amount of retinol. I didn’t want any of that on him. I plan on doing a post about the natural makeups that I’ve been using and like… soon hopefully!
