DO clean your house before New Year’s Eve to rid of the previous year’s bad luck.
DON’T sweep or clean your house on New Year’s Day (this could sweep away good fortune).
DON’T wash your hair on New Year’s Day.
DO wear reds and yellows, bright and happy colours that will bring good fortune.
DON’T curse or speak of death. This could bring bad luck.
DON’T use scissors or knives on New Year’s Day (this could cut off good fortune).
DO settle your debts before the New Year.
DO eat whole fish (abundance), chicken (prosperity) and dumplings (health and fortune).
DON’T cut noodles (they represent long life).
DON’T cry on New Year’s Day or you could end up crying for the rest of the year.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Happy Monday!
Happy Chinese new year to you too Sam! Hope the year of the dragon brings you everything you wish and hope for. Did you wear bright colours? I wore a red dress to work as we were having a little celebration there :)

Happy Chinese New Year! Thank you! We didn’t do much these weekend bc the hubby was working, but I am wearing a red dress to dinner tonight! :)
Happy Chinese New Year to you Sam! I totally remember my mum saying those things to me too :) May the year of the Dragon bring you loads of luck! x
Happy Chinese New Year Sam! This is excellent! I researched about this a couple of years back on my personal blog and implemented it in my own life. I do this every new year and for me it works. I think they are excellent practices. You are so lucky to be under the dragon sign. Mine is the rat. LOL Have a fab day!

Kim!! Happy Chinese New Year!! The rat is a GREAT sign! My father was a rat! {And that also means we are very “compatible”!} I knew there was a reason why I always think you’re so fab! :) xo
Happy Chinese New Year to you too! I’m now a follower!!

Happy Dragon Year love! Can’t believe you are a dragon – it’s the best zodiac sign! We were toying with the idea of having a dragon baby but it conflicts with my bar exam sessions…
My mom and mother-in-law told me the same facts too, I love that we have our own superstitions to believe in =)
Happy Chinese New Year! Wishing you lots of blessings!

Oh crap! I used the scissors AND washed my hair.
LOL!! I used the scissors too! That wasn’t one that I remembered from my childhood! Ooopps! :)
Happy Chinese New Year!! =)
Happy Year of Dragon!!
there’s another one: DON’T read book at new years….”shou” means loss…
Happy Chinese New Year! I do remember those “rules” when I was growing up. Thanks for refreshing my memories!

Happy Chinese New Year Sam! I know this might sound crazy, but yesterday I was craving Chinese food incredibly bad, like I called my sister and whined to her about how I wish it wasn’t so windy and I could pick some up. Must have been some sort of intuition maybe? Anyway, I love your list of Do’s and Don’t and I think next year I will give this Holiday a proper celebration!
Happy Chinese New Year!! Wishing you the best year, lots of luck and health. Dragons run in my family and I’m excited to have a baby dragon :).
Red Soles and Red Wine
Happy New Year Sam! All the best to you in the upcoming year, my brother is also born under the year of the dragon as well :)
Hi Sam, You’re a dragon? Happy New Year of the Dragon! I’m a rat. Sounds funny when you say it like that. I have no idea what that means but my dad told me I was a rat. I’ve broken almost all the do’s and don’ts…crap! Have a great week!
Happy New Year Sam!! Wow what fun facts. Some are similar to the Japanese culture and some are different, so it was fun to read your post today!!
LOVE these Sam! Especially the one about not crying on New Years. I am thinking there is some truth to these…
