CHANEL 19 BAG REVIEW

SIZE and PRICING

The Chanel 19 bag gets its name from the year it was created, in 2019. It’s actually a name that echos its elder, the 2.55 bag that was released in 1955 by Mademoiselle Chanel. Shortly after its release, the Chanel 19 bag became a sensation to people around the globe. Before making an infamous appearance on the runway at the 2019 Paris Fashion Week, it was perfected by the late Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard. The Chanel 19 flap bag currently retails at $5,100 with the recent price increase. I was lucky to purchase mine prior.

Today, I’m featuring the small Chanel 19 flap bag in glazed goatskin. Goatskin is said to be suppler and softer because of the presence of lanolin in the leather. It is also more durable than other skins and leathers you may find elsewhere. Goatskin is also water-resistant, breathable, and heavy-bound. Of note, the first editions out were made with coated lambskin.

I was concerned about having a lighter colored bag with lambskin since color transfer can happen easily. However, I was told that the glazed/coated goatskin is more durable and resistant which is why I felt comfortable purchasing the bag.

The Chanel 19 bag is offered in 5 different sizes – the belt/waist bag, wallet on chain, flap bag (known as the small), large flap bag (known as the medium), and maxi flap bag (known as the large). The 19 bag sizes range from 8 cm – 14 cm. The dimensions of this bag are approximately 6.2 x 10.1 x 3.5 (LxWxH). For reference, I am 5’4″ {but usually wearing heels}. This size fits everything that I need even with the Zoomoni organizer!

AESTHETICS and CONSTRUCTION

The Chanel 19 bag is a small-sized flap bag that includes a longer strap for practicality to carry on the shoulder and crossbody, and a functional gold top handle chain for a quick grab on the go. The bag is made of goatskin and features gold-tones, silver-tones, and ruthenium-finish hardware. I LOVE the three different finishes of hardware which makes mixing metals so chic! The glaze does give the leather a “shinier” finish.

It is a single flap bag with a material grosgrain type interior which is why I purchased a Zoomoni organizer to protect it. The organizer fits tightly (as seen in the above photos) and fits all the essentials.

Regarding Chanel, you expect excellent construction which I have found with the bag itself and hardware sewn onto the leather handle/straps. I’ve seen chats about the puffiness of the quilting and that being a deal-breaker for some who want maximum puffiness. Since it is larger quilting, I am happy with the current puffy situation of my bag! ;)

FUNCTIONALITY

Even though this is the “small” Chanel 19 bag, I would almost consider it a medium size as far as what it can hold. With the Zoomoni organizer, it holds all essentials such as my keys, small wallet, cardholder, makeup bag, mask, cell phone, and hand sanitizer. It would have a little more room with the organizer, but the smaller compartments keep my keys easy to find. (See above photos.)

The turnlock is very easy to open and makes accessing the contents of the bag simple when carried on the shoulder or crossbody. The top handle chain also makes it able to carry on the crook of the elbow. I usually have the longer strap on my crook also, but I have seen others let it hang down. The shoulder strap drop (from top of strap to the top of the bag) is approximately 19.5″ for those who have been asking!

As with the Chanel Boy Bag, the chain is heavier than the actual bag. Otherwise, I would consider this a lightweight bag.

SOS RATING

FOUR GOLD STARS {out of five}! I took a star off because of the price. If money were no object, then this bag would be a 5 star bag. This is an on-trend bag but still classic enough because of the quilting and shape. It has caused some polarization within Chanel fans. Either people love it or hate it!

Happy Friday GlamFam!! Does anyone else feel like this month has dragged on or is it just me? My oldest had a short school week since he was off on Monday and Tuesday. I was trying to get back on track and now it’s already Friday. We are celebrating his teacher’s half birthday today which is such a great idea for those with Summer birthdays! I will probably bring cupcakes up for the class on Little M’s half birthday which is at the end of the month. He always misses the class celebrations, and I’m glad one of the room moms thought of it!

I am working at the hospital this weekend, and it’s always a surprise as to what’s going on there. Since my floor is now the COVID floor, we have been working in medical records in the basement. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve worked in a cubicle, but it’s made for a fun change of scenery. Mr. S will be in charge of keeping the Little Ones busy! What are you up to this weekend?
