Fun versus Functional: Leather Skirt

The leather skirt is one of those wardrobe items that can be dicey!  If worn incorrectly, you can be a motorcycle chic or trend gone bad.  But it’s an easy item to wear if you think about it as just a textured skirt.  Here I’m showing you how to take it from work wear to a girls night out!
The Functional Version

sweater :: Express
skirt :: Gap (gifted from my friend L* – it was too big for her)
earrings :: Premier
bracelet :: Junk Gypsie gifted from galpals
shoes ::  Nine West (c/o mom)
bag :: Coach

The sweater is a nice contrast to the smooth leather, and the heels break up the browns.  (I have worn this skirt with tall leather boots but realized that it may have been too much leather on my lower half!)  I felt that the addition of a suede bag added more texture (even though it is a kind of leather).
And of course, trusty turquoise is my accent color to the rescue!  These heels are great because they are a combination of brown and turquoise to tie everything together!

The Fun Version

cuff :: F21
booties :: Kate Spade (Marshall’s)

To go from day to night, I tucked in the sweater and added patent bordeaux booties and a cuff.  It toughens up the look just a bit!  {Background on the booties :: I got them at Marshall’s for $39.99 and I’m not sure if they were mismarked but I checked out and hightailed it out of there!  That’s the same story for a pair of Coach over-the-knee boots I got from Marshall’s.  You’ll see them in the winter.}

Do you own a leather skirt?  Have you worn it this season yet?
