I cant’ believe it’s already September, and the weather in Texas has cooled off to the 80s! This is an outfit I wore earlier this Summer to a Tata Harper facial event at Neiman Marcus. This gorgeous silk top is a past season Cuyana creation. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, then you must check them out. They are built on the premise of “fewer better” closet pieces. I discovered the brand during my attempt at the Five Piece French Wardrobe multiple times. They carry beautiful quality staple pieces that are meant to last. This is one of their more fashion-forward pieces, but most are timeless and classic.

I love the deep blue color of the top and don’t have many other navy items in my closet except for these striped shorts (that I’ve worn with a black top here and white top here)! I was looking for a casual chic summer outfit to attend a Neiman Marcus event. The accessories are what make the outfit so dressy.

THE STYLE Rx: Elevate your everyday shorts by pairing them with modish accessories. Another trick is to wear it in a luxurious fabric (like silk or linen).

You can make any “simple” outfit dressier by pairing it with elevated accessories. Here I am wearing pearl drop earrings, gold + pearl bracelets, and glitter espadrilles. The same could be applied to a white tee and denim shorts. Instead of wearing it plain with sneakers, pair it with a scarf (either large draped over the tee or small tied around the neck), statement necklace, blazer, or cardigan and wedge sandals.

If you really want to step it up a notch, then trade out a cotton tee for a linen, rayon, or silk blend. Those materials tend to look a little more luxurious. How do you dress up your shorts?
