GIFT GUIDE // For the Hostess

style of sam, best gift guide for hostess

Whenever we are hosted by friends or family for the holidays, it’s always nice and thoughtful if you can bring a gift… even when they tell you not to!  Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

ONE // MR AND MRS GLASSES // These Kate Spade glasses are perfect if you host and hostess happen to be newly weds or great for a lovely couple that you truly admire!

TWO // DISCO GNOME // Okay, I know I’ve listed this in a gift guide previously, but they are SO FUN!!!  Every home need a happy and shiny gnome – great for the holiday season or year round as I keep mine out!  I have the large version and recently sent the smaller one to one of our family members {who don’t know so hope you don’t figure it out if you’re reading}!

THREE // WINE + TOPPERS // When I don’t have time to go shopping, then I bring a bottle of wine.  EASY!  I also happen to stock up on wine bottle accessories so I can dress a bottle up fast.  These holiday ones are so cute – really love the fur stole!  I’ve also used these slate tags throughout the year for a personalized message.

FOUR // NEST HOLIDAY CANDLE // I know this is a great hostess present as I received one myself!  It smells BEAUTIFUL and also comes in a 3-wick size.  BTW, did you know that NEST is made from FDA-approved wax AND you can reuse the container?!

FIVE // BOUCHON BY THOMAS KELLER COOKBOOK // For your foodie friends or family.  If you’ve been there, then you KNOW the food is absolutely delectable.  If you haven’t, then TRUST ME!  It’s divine.

SIX // FLOWERS + VASE // Flowers are always a great idea and even better when you bring them in a beautiful container!  It serves as a memory of your time well spent!

SEVEN // BUTTERCREAM ROSE CAKE // Let them eat cake!  No worries if you aren’t a baker because you can order and/or send this bad boy!  Buttercream and beautiful.

EIGHT // OLIVE OIL + BALSAMIC VINEGAR SET // I religiously keep these Sotte Voce infused balsamic vinegar and fungi olive oil stocked in my house.  I’ve also had these shipped to friends and family.  The Aceto Balsamico spices up a basic salad and make caprese salad even more to-die-for! The Olio ai Funghi is SO GOOD as a base for breakfast eggs.

I wore this outfit for a night out to meet the Negative Underwear gals earlier this month.  {Side note: The founders Lauren and Marissa are so nice, their bras are super comfy, and they have the best Instagram account!}  See, another backpack outfit.  Most of my backpack outfits aren’t this dressy.  They are very mommy-ish, which is my uniform of a sweatshirt variant, skinny or boyfriend jeans, and boots.  Since I was baby free this night, I wanted to get glammed up!

The PIECE that I styled everything around was this cracked Balenciaga skirt found at Last Call.  Where else right?  First, I found the cracked turtleneck top which was an absolute b*tch to put on, and I almost got stuck taking it off.  BTW, that HAS happened to me when I tried on a too-small Valentino dress and I had to get an associate to come into the dressing room to help me get it off!  #mostembarassing  Anyhow, after avoiding another near catastrophe, I thought… it would be great if this came in a skirt.  And then my awesome sales associate told me that she had one!!!  And basically, you know what happened next!

Since the skirt is so CRACKED, I paired it with a smooth leather crop top and black heels -very basic but simple enough to make a statement.  And why not throw an oversized coat over the shoulders?!

The Style Rx:  Black and white always looks great with a pop of color.  Opt for a bright basic color like red, yellow, or blue to make a strong statement or try a pretty pastel for a softer look.

Okay, totally random… but can you guess which of the designer pieces that I’m wearing cost $40?  You wouldn’t believe it, but it’s the blue DIOR coat that I found on eBay last year.  I guess no one was looking for a cobalt blue 80s/90s-with-major-shoulder-pads wool coat!  That was a seriously lucky find!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Will be posting my last gift guide for the season tomorrow!  You can check out my previous one for beauty queens and for little ones!  You better believe that I’m still shopping this weekend.

SOS Off Duty

These pictures were taken in October, but I was saving all of my “backpack” outfits until I revealed Piece TWO of the Five Piece French Wardrobe!  I have plenty.  Seriously, I wear this backpack NON-STOP!

I called this SOS Off Duty because I seem to wear a lot of black when I’m hanging with Little M.  It’s easy to match, and I have a BAZILLION black pieces in case he happens to get food, snot, anything-you-can-imagine on me.  He’s really busy since he can walk, and I am bobbing and weaving to avoid catastrophes on my clothing!

The Style Rx:  Black is BACK when you don’t have time to match!  Vary textures to keep it fresh!

I do wear long necklaces and some earrings with my little one, but those delicate ones are in danger of being broken by a quick pull.  I wear them when I’m feeling brave i.e. he seems to be calm!  BTW, the bottoms that I’m wearing are skorts – genius when you have a little one!
