Quick Tip Tuesday: Estate Sales

My friends have asked about some of the things that I’ve gotten either thrifting or at estate sales.  So, I wanted to share my estate sales tips and knowledge with you!

I learned about a website that helps you locate estate sales in your area: http://www.estatesales.net/.  You search by zip code and most of the listings have descriptions and pictures so you can decide if it’s worth your time to stop by.  Usually, they start on Friday morning and end on Sunday afternoon.

From my experience, you can get a really good deal on higher priced items (depending on the company hosting the sale).  If an item is priced more than $100, you place a bid for at least fifty percent of the price.  On Saturday evening, they determine the winner of the bid (if the items isn’t sold for full price before then).  Sunday afternoons is the clearance sale!  Most companies will slash prices to 50% after 1pm.

Look at some of the treasures that I’ve gotten at estate sales!

This Yves Saint Laurent jacket was $30.  It was a little too big for me, but I love the style and pattern.  I had it altered for another $30  (This picture is before it was altered.  It may not always be advisable to buy something that isn’t the correct size.  See this blog Extra Petite on whether you should try or not!).  Total = $60 so not too shabby.

These blue glass canisters were $10 each.  You can probably get any glass canisters for the same price at Target, but I loved the color and design of the glass.

The patio set was $150.  That’s a little more pricey, but I felt it was a good deal for an iron table set.  It was black and I had it painted blue to add color to our backyard!  (I guess I’m on a blue kick lately!)

Hope this helps!  I’m working on a “Savvy Shopping” post, but it’s taking awhile to compile all my thoughts into something that makes sense!  Please feel free to ask any questions or post any comments!
