Hello GlamFam! I hope y’all had a magnificent Easter! I did this IGTV video about “How I Dye My Hair at Home” way before Spring Break and Quarantine! It seems so like a good thing to share now since most of us are becoming barbers, nail technicians, and hair people on the fly. It actually makes me really sad to see my hair appointment on the calendar since I will be missing my friend and hair person, Connie.

Did you know that I am actually an expert at box color from my college years?! LOL! I’ve had a range of blonde, blue, and goth black hair! NOT JOKING!

In this video, I am using Revlon Total Hair Color in Dark Brown. This new formulation is a clean and vegan hair dye! I was so excited to try it because it has none of the bad stuff (NO ammonia, parabens, sulfates, pthalates, or silicones) AND it contains good ingredients like Hemp Seed Oil to help moisturize. It also comes with a conditioning gloss gives that extra shine w/ camellia oil & black tea extract. ⁣

EDIT: After posting, I got a response from an aesthetician to #showyourroots and support your hair stylist. One way that you can do this is by reaching out to your hair person to see if they are making hair kits (they prepare the hair kits and then you mix it at home). I spoke with my amazing hair gal, Connie, and she is not doing those at this time.

THE BEAUTY Rx: Maintain your locks with a clean and vegan hair color! Get rid of the grays in 3 easy steps!

So let’s get to it!

PICK THE RIGHT SHADE

My hair is color-treated with balayage which basically means highlights through the hair where it looks sunkissed and is lighter at the ends. (I included pictures of the front, with roses in my hair, and back, in the denim jumpsuit, from Feb 2019 for reference. You can see that it’s dark on top and gets lighter toward the bottom.) This means that my roots grow in my natural color AND GREYS, or strands of glitter as I like to affectionately call them, show. These “wisdom highlights” tend to be problematic and that’s what I tackled with this hair dye in the color dark brown. The awesome thing is that the color turns out EXACTLY how it looks on the box!

I saw Connie, my hair gal, after dying my roots, and she told me that I could have gone a shade lighter too. Again, this was before COVID had affected our lives!

GET PREPPED

Here are some tips to prepare before dying your hair!

DYE YOUR HAIR

PLEASE read the instructions that come with the box. You mix Bottle 1 and 2, and start applying to the roots in 1/2 inch sections. It only takes 20-25 minutes (or 30 min if you have resistant greys) and you’re all set with beautifully colored hair and NO GREYS! Certain shades require a longer leave in time (like the blondes, burgundy, and auburn). This is lasts up to 6 weeks! ⁣

WASH AND VOILA

After the correct leave-in time, then wash it out until the water runs clear. Use Bottle 3, the enriching conditioner, to add moisture and shine to your hair! VOILA! You are done!

HAIR MAINTENANCE AFTERWARDS

I keep the conditioning gloss in my shower and use it once a week to keep up the shine and color. Also, use a specific color-treated shampoo to prevent fading or lightening. Personally, I don’t wash my hair every day and use a lot of dry shampoo (Kevin Murphy) so that also helps to maintain the color.

Here is the How-To Video!

This video is on my YouTube channel! I’ve done time stamps if you need to skip ahead! Apparently, I talk a lot when doing any video! LOL! Let me know if you have any questions!

Happy Monday Gorgeous GlamFam! Yesterday, the weather was BEAUTIFUL! We were so thankful to celebrate Easter with a live streaming of St Patrick’s Cathedral Fort Worth and then most of the day outside. In this time of quarantine, it really challenges us to be grateful for the simple things. Even though it’s been inconvenient, I love this change in perspective. I’ve also been doing Rachel Hollis’s #Next90Challenge which shares a new lesson every Monday! It’s been inspirational.

Thank you so much for stopping by and supporting SOS!
