For those of you that just tuned in, From Grandma with Love is a twice monthly series that is one of my faves! I’m lucky to be the recipient of my Grandmother-in-law’s beautiful wardrobe. She owned so many unique pieces, and I’ve had the MOST FABULOUS time styling it on the blog. It’s a win-win for me because I ADORE vintage and a fun excuse to wear it!
I am always looking for an excuse to wear this Greek key dress cover up robe! The simple gold border make it so chic but versatile. I’ve used it as a swim coverup. It would be so fab with a gold turban (surprised I don’t own one)! Today, I’m wearing it as a robe over a linen tank and denim shorts. Very casual. Super chic. Very easy.
THE STYLE Rx: Throw a robe or kimono over a tank and denim shorts for a chic summer look! Wear it with your favorite slides or even sneakers for a laid back look.
These denim shorts are one my favorites for a couple of reasons. Besides being cool vintage Levi’s shorts, they belonged to my father. I have memories of him wearing them to mow the lawn. He passed away when I was eighteen, so he never had a chance to meet Mr. S or the kids. I love having something of his to wear… even if it’s his raggedy old lawn mowing shorts! I kept a few other things but this and his jade necklace are very near and dear to my heart.
You know I love throwing robes/kimonos over tees and jeans too! (See it here.) Do you like the kimonos/robes trend?
Now here’s the REAL TALK…
Sorry for the lack of posts last week. During our Seattle trip, things were pretty hectic with the kids being out of their environment and off schedule. No one was sleeping well, and I was trying to stay up at night to get blog posts done. WHY?! We were “supposed” to be on vacation. By the time we got back, I was COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED and burned out. The kids were tired (and one sick) and I was about to start a busy work week. And then all of the crazy things happened! (Ignore this if you’ve already read it on Instagram! Baby MJ smashed and bloodied her finger, had an ear infection, and Mr. S had eye surgery.) This level of insanity had been going on for awhile like months, and Mr. S has been telling me it isn’t sustainable. All of this to say that I’m disappointed with myself for letting stressors that I placed on myself get the best of me and affect family time.
Awhile back, I decided to blog only twice a week (on Tuesdays and Fridays) and somehow I’ve been killing myself to get three posts up a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Again, WHY?! As a blogger, it’s easy to get “sucked in” and think that you need to ramp it up in order to be good enough… on Instagram, the blog, facebook, Stories, to keep up with all the sales (did you really need ANOTHER Nordstrom blog post? Ha!), etc, etc. But here’s the deal. I have a family with two little ones and a part-time job. The blog makes THREE jobs total (not including being a wife which is a whole other job in itself). There’s not enough time in the day for everything.
One day, I told Mr. S that I needed to get up at 4:30am so I could get everything done. He looked at me with crazy eyes! On Sunday, he let me take a nap and I slept for THREE hours. I was so mad at myself when I woke up since I had turned off my alarm and we missed church. He assured me that it was completely okay and I likely needed a three-hour nap every day since I’m so sleep deprived. The gist of everything that I’m trying to say is to remember to give myself more grace because I’m doing the best that I can.
So… I’m only going to blog twice a week (Tuesday and Fridays) unless something special comes up. (And YES, this was actually meant for yesterday!) I’m telling you as much as I’m telling myself! And although I feel very lucky to be in the blogosphere, I am even more grateful for my family thanks to God. I want to be true to myself and appreciate all the time I have with these little ones because they are growing SO FAST.
If you’ve made it this far, then thank you for taking the time to read. And THANK YOU for all of your support on any of these platforms. Being in these busy culture, how do you tell yourself to give yourself grace?
