Fun vs Functional: Dude Looks Like a Lady

I’m back in town for a short while, so my Workin Gal series will continue next week!  Today I’m starting another addition to the blog – fun versus functional!  Many times, I see a trend report and come up with a fun outfit idea in my head.  But then I think, where am I going to wear that really?  Take the harem pant… I know, I know.  So many are glad the 80s trend is out, but I LOVED the harem pant.  Most fashionistas were wearing them with platform heels, a tank, and leather jacket.  But Mr. S and I don’t really go “out” and I wouldn’t wear THAT to work.  So I came up with a more subtle way to wear them to work.  My coworkers still sang “U Can’t Touch This” to me, but I was happy to wear my harems in a functional way!  (I’ll save the outfit pics for another time!)

Recently, I rediscovered the Adored Austin blog and saw that she was having a contest to win a pair of shoes!  (Who doesn’t need more shoes, right?!)  You just had to submit a picture of your best menswear inspired out to enter the contest.  PERFECT time for fun versus functional!!

Here’s the fun version…

blazer :: Norma Kamali for Walmart
shirt :: JCrew
shorts :: from Dad (old)
bowtie :: Rodarte for Target (really a belt)
shoes :: MaxStudio (from Marshalls)
bracelets :: F21

And here’s the functional version… (And I have worn this to work.  My manager said I looked like a stewardess.  I think I look like a bartender! LOL!)

shirt :: JCrew
vest :: H&M
pants :: F21
tie :: Christian Lacroix scarf
bracelets :: both gifted (one from a gal pal and the other from MIL)
shoes :: MaxStudio (from Marshalls)

And these are some fun and girly heeled oxfords!  My coworker calls them my “fancy” shoes!

What do you think of fun versus functional?  Happy Friday!!!
