A good wardrobe foundation starts with good basics and then you go from there. Although it may seem like I’m always in some kind of fashion costume, my real life requires real clothing! Something I never tire of is a classic button-up shirt.
My “dress-up” uniform is a button-up shirt, jeans, and heels. It’s simple, classic, and elegant. I wore this top with black jeans and heels for a casual teacher conference to discuss Little M’s academics and plans for next year. There’s nothing wrong with being “Basic” or classic! :)
And I have to give you the backstory on this tailored shirt…
My friend, Jackie, invited me to experience the newly opened Double R Brand in The Shops at Clearfork. They have been named “Best Custom Clothier for Women” by D Magazine, so I was excited to see what it was about! The boutique is exquisitely decorated, and I love the candy bar wall! #sugaraddict They have beautiful pieces that can be custom fitted to YOU. And they will even do clothes cloning (which is a remake of an item in your closet). I love that idea since I have so many vintage pieces that cannot be repaired.
CHOOSE YOUR SILHOUETTE
After perusing all of the amazing pieces (and totally ogling a tweed dress), I decided to try the tailored button-up shirt. You cannot go wrong with a classic, and tailored shirts are SO versatile.
GET MEASURED
It was easy and fast. First, I changed into a sample size shirt, and then Jackie took measurements for my chest, waist, hips, neck-t0-navel, shoulders, sleeve length, and shirt length. The awesome part is that they keep these on file for any future orders.
PICK FABRIC AND DETAILS
Here’s where the fun part starts. There were SO MANY CHOICES of fabrics. I honestly was a little overwhelmed, but Jackie was so helpful. I wanted a black tailored shirt, and my favorite color is pink. She was able to help me merge the two into this black herringbone 2-ply easy care, wrinkle free top with pink mini gingham poplin accents (like the gusseted tail, placket, and monogram). Basically, you have approximately 15 places you can customize for $30.
WAIT AND THEN WEAR IT
It takes about 3-4 weeks for production of the shirt. I was SO EXCITED when Jackie let me know that my top was ready! Small touches like the invisible snap between the top two button so no gaps (aka no bra peekage) make it so luxurious. The shirts are made to account for shrinkage and will settle after about 3 washes.

Happy Wednesday Y’all! It’s Hump Day and I’m trying to get stuff done. I’ve been in a weird slump lately but started reading a chapter a day of “Rediscover Jesus” by Matthew Kelly. It’s changed my perspective on things and reminded me of what my priorities should be! Anyhow, I’m still in disbelief that the kids are growing so quickly and it’s making me so sad!
