Style Rx // The Little Black Dress

Mr. S and I went to a birthday dinner this past weekend.  I had it on the calendar and got a reminder from my iPhone that morning.  The day flew by and then I realized there was only 15 minutes to get ready!  And that’s when the little black dress came to my rescue!

DRESS: old Limited {similar} // NECKLACE: thrifted {similar from RL} // BRACELETS: thrifted {similar here, here, and here} // HEELS: Ann Taylor // Sunglasses: Prada // BAG: Chanel {similar}
Since I didn’t have time to think, I went for the little black dress and piled on some gold jewelry.  I’ve had this dress since 1998, and got it at a discount when my 2nd job was at The Limited.  There have been times I’ve contemplated donating this dress.  Luckily for me on Sunday evening, I had NOT!  It’s simple, stretchy, and black {perfect for eating Italian food}!
This dress is a classic shape.  It’s easy to wear on it own, or layered with a blazer or sweater for work.  The spaghetti straps are nice for summer, but not when I’m feeling bad about my arms.  It’s also the perfect length.  It hits above my knees, but isn’t too short when I’m sitting.  The one thing I love and hate about the dress is the material.  It’s a jersey which hangs nicely and stretches, but can show every bump!  When examining my own pictures, I see my strapless bra silhouette.  That’s something to consider when picking your little black dress.

The little black dress is perfect for any occasion… brunch, dinner, work, or even a night at the ballet! Every gal should have a little black dress in her wardrobe arsenal!  Do you?!

P.S. There is now a ‘Pin It’ button when you hover over a picture!  Thank you, Katrina, for helping me with it!

  1. Yes, every girl should have an arsenal of LBDs! I love the simplicity of this dress, gives you so many options huh? More than that, what have you done to your hair?! It looks amazing in these photos!

    Sx

    1. Thanks for the hair complement!! I washed, air dryed, and curled my hair that day! Normally, I wash it the night before, sleep on it wet, then curl it the next day! Maybe, I should try “this” more often but that would require less sleep!! LOL!

  2. you know what!? i totally don’t own a simple black dress that i love so much that i could call it my “little black dress”! i always opt for color when buying stuff but i do lack so many wardrobe staples! gotta change that!

    1. I know what you mean Sandy! Most of my black items are from YEARS ago because I mostly buy colorful things now. But ONE black dress would be a good thing for you to have – just in case!!

  3. What a great LBD. I love the simple classic look. The little bows on the strap of the shoe are a really nice detail; they make the entire outfit a standout.

  4. Love the simplicity of that dress, yet it’s so classy and it fits you perfectly! You look stunning Sam!
    And you hair is SO beautiful!

  5. I could not agree more. The LBD is SUCH a staple in my closet. Unfortunately mine has only really made appearances for funerals as of late..so it’s officially retired from any fun purposes (it’s a pretty conservative LBD lol). LOVE your hair! You have my dream hair.

    1. Kay, so sorry that you are using LBDs for funerals and not something more fun. And thank you for the sweet comment about my hair! :)

  6. haha always gotta wear something when eating Italian food :p

    I love how a LBD is a black canvas that you can pile on accessories. This looks like a great summer evening look. Not too dressed up, but fancy enough. Great job!
