What inspires you?  When I see a work of art, whether it’s on a canvas or dress, I wonder what inspired the artist.

Be still my heart!  I couldn’t believe my computer screen.  I stared in disbelief when I saw the ready-to-wear version of Mary Katrantzou’s Faberge dress on sale for Last Call at Neiman Marcus.  I vividly remember seeing the designer’s work for the first time on Anna Dello Russo.  It was a masterpiece, and I was in love.
Just a little about this brilliant designer… Mary Katrantzou is a Greek fashion designer residing in London.  Originally, she studied architecture before switching her focus from interiors to fashion. Her work has been seen in Vogue, Grazia, Gossip Girl, and a collaboration with Topshop {just to name a few}.  This dress was inspired by the beauty of a Coromandel screen and Faberge egg

  1. omgosh this dress is SOOO AMAZING the print is just divine and you look ABSOLUTELY STUNNING IN IT!!!!

  2. That is a stunning dress, and you wear it beautifully. It takes both moxie and a sense of balance to pull it off, and Katrantzou certainly has both. The dress is a great example of using asymmetry in design, in the sense of balancing elements that might otherwise be mismatched. Have you seen these asymmetric leather sandals from Jill Sander? (They’re no longer available for purchase, however) They touch on the same design principle that your dress does, I think.

    1. I have seen those leather sandals!! They are gorgeous! {I think Jane and Judy Aldridge had a pair that they were selling!}

  3. That dress is so incredible. It really is like a piece of art, and an architectural drawing all in one. I may have to look out for this designer! Also I voted for you! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you win, because you totally deserve to!

  4. I love your bold choices…so beautiful and striking! The bag is to die for. Love it all! I love to be inspired by people like you! :)

  5. Exquisite Sam! Exquisite! At first I thought it was a skirt and when I saw the second pic, I was like WOW! That dress is so amazingly beautiful. You look like a porcelain doll. Architecture’s are so talented and creative. I was not surprised at her background whatsoever. Thank you for featuring her! Very informative. :)

  6. OMG Sam! Mary K is available for sale at the Last Call Center??????? I am SO coming to visit you so we can go to the Last Call Center. OMG what else have you found in that place? The dress is gorgeous, and I can def see the Faberge egg influence.

    1. Bessie!! Oh my goodness, I would be camping out there if Mary K was regularly there. No, it was on Last Call clearance from the regular Neiman Marcus. They were having a major sale and I couldn’t believe it!

  7. love love love! what a great find! i’ve been wanting to get one of her pieces for a while now, but no luck with sales. the necklace is stunning too :)

  8. What a gorgeous dress….I can see the designers passion behind the dress. And you look fabulous in it!! I wish the designer could see you wearing the dress so beautifully!!

  9. I just died, Mary’s stuff is soooo expensive and you found it at Last Call? Talk about perfection, you look fantastic from head to toe and the bag is beautiful.

    1. Jen, sorry, I think I need to clarify my sentence!! It was on Last Call clearance at the regular NM! But I did die when I saw it!!

  10. Wow. What an amazing piece to own! And on sale?!

    I am always seeking out inspiration. Sometimes I find it in obvious places like magazines, art etc. And then other times it could be on the subway. I guess I try to keep an open mind :)
