Try a Trend: Faux Fur

Last week, the weather cooled down in Texas and I was happy to bring out the Fall gear!  Try a Trend is back!  I must admit that I’m not really “trying” the fur trend.  It’s been fully embraced for the last couple of years!  I’m always looking for a reason to wear my faux fur vests, capelets, or boots!  And this look has two trends going on – fur and animal print!  Whoa!

faux fur vest :: Ross
blazer :: Gap
dress :: Norma Kamali for Walmart
earrings :: Anthropologie
purse :: Chloe boudior bag
heels :: Chanel

Here we go with that contrast of color again!  This time, I chose an orangey melon to spice up the black.  At first, I just had the vest over the dress, but it wasn’t quite right because the dress is short sleeved.  To add warmth, I wore the vest OVER a blazer!  If it’s really frosty, I would wear black tights and tall boots.  This is a great way to winterize some of your summer/ spring dresses.  Here’s some more fashion math!  dress + jacket/vest + tights + boots = winter fashionista!
I first spotted this little orange bubble beauty in Paris years ago.  Alas it was not meant to be (at that time).  I found it a year later on ebay at a great price.  (It happened right after my bubble car, a VW beetle, was vandalized beyond repair when we moved to Fort Worth.  In memory of my little beetle that was…)

These earrings really make a statement!  Although they may be considered more of a spring/ summer color, they makes an impact with darker clothes in the fall/winter.

I’m trying to figure out how to do video tutorials!  I’ve gotten requests for “how to tie a belt” and “how I do my hair”!  Coming soon (hopefully)!

  1. I love the look of fur and some faux fur can look really great while being cruelty free and financially friendly. I’ve been wanting to do a post with my Express faux leather moto jacket with the faux fur color- but its still sort of humid in NYC- cold front coming this weekend, so I think I might try it then. Love this look on you.

  2. I love those earrings, that was the first thing I noticed in this outfit post!  So glad to find things on ebay, especially if it is something you saw overseas!  Let me know how the video goes, I’ve gotten requests as well!

  3. Samantha, that snakeskin dress is gorgeous. I love the cut & length! Fur vests are awesome. I don’t have any, but my aunt in Cincinnati does. She wears them with dresses and pants. I love how you’ve paired fur with an animal print. Girl, my mom had a VW Beetle (in fact she owned 2) and they stole it. She loved that car! They always seem to steal them. Don’t know what it is. But anyway, hope you’re having an awesome Tuesday and this is a purrr-fect look. :D

  4. I definitely haven’t tried the faux fur trend but it looks awesome on you!! And I love that pop of color you added with the purse! Yes please with the belt video tutorial!!

  5. Marlene – that’s why you have such a well edited closet!  You really consider what you want before getting it (instead of hastily buying something because of a great price like me)!  I hope you get a perfect fur gillet soon!

  6. Thanks Kim.  I was really impressed with that Norma Kamali for Walmart line, so I have many of the dresses!  When I’m going casual, I wear it with leggings and tall boots.

    That’s too bad that people kept stealing your mom’s VW Beetle!  They are such happy cars – it stinks when bad things happen to them.  That VW Beetle was my first new car.  I purchased it right before pharmacy school (loved the VW bug since high school)!

  7. Thanks Cara!  I love reading the “trend reports” in magazines.  And it’s fun to see what I have in my closet that will work!

  8. I would never have thought about layering a fur vest over a blazer, but wow, it’s so chic!  Great look and the pops of orange with the bag and earrings are really fantastic.  I like this “Try a Trend” feature!

  9. I really like your dress! did you buy recently? I never go to wal-mart, so I’ve never heard of this collection…

  10. Oh, too bad.. I really like this dress! I wish they still were selling this…Thanks!
